State Conference Workshops

Fruit of the Spirit

Joy Arundell

In this workshop, we will be looking at the Fruit of the Spirit. We will think about how God sends His Spirit to bear fruit in our lives and what we can prayerfully expect Him to do in us and through us. It will be a great time of digging deeply into God's Word together.

Joy Arundell goes to Chalmers in Hawthorn East with her husband Nick and two girls, Annabelle and Molly. She works at the Presbyterian Theological College as the Women's Training Advisor, supporting women in their ministry training. Joy loves reading the Bible with women, jogging and sunshine!

Delighting in Doctrine

Kathryn Gatt

Doctrine, Creeds and Confessions can sound dry, dull, and irrelevant. But sound doctrine is vital to healthy faith.
Paul warns Timothy to “Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers."

In this workshop, we’re going to dive into Paul’s instructions to Timothy to see why sound doctrine is so important to us as believers. Together, we’ll learn how we can delight in the truths of Scripture, and see how ancient texts such as the Apostle’s Creed can help to keep us firm in our faith.

Kathryn attends Bundoora Presbyterian with her husband Chris, and their two kids. She is employed as the Women’s Ministries Facilitator for the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. She is also currently studying at the Presbyterian Theological College. In her spare time, she loves to read, garden, and bake gluten-free goodies.

Loving Tweens, Teens and Twenties

Sharon Catchpoole

Mary and Joseph must have had the fright of their parenting lives when they realized Jesus was missing—and he was only a ‘tween’! Young people in our care have an incredible ability to tug at our emotional strings at any time and in all sorts of situations. Yet, God has graciously entrusted us with them, along with the responsibility of "training them up in the way they should go." In this workshop, I hope to encourage you either in your parenting or leadership of young people.

Sharon attends the Clayton Chinese Christian Church, where her husband Mark ministers to the English-speaking congregation. She is the mother of three adult children, and a proud Granny of six grandchildren. Since 2015, it has been her absolute joy and privilege to be the Junior School Christian Education teacher at Presbyterian Ladies' College, Burwood. When Sharon’s not playing with her grandchildren, she enjoys the company of Charlie, her one-year-old Australian Cobber Dog!

Biblical Theology

Ben Johnson

Understanding that Jesus’s life, death and resurrection was the fulfillment of Old Testament promise and the foreshadowing and enabling of our future hope was hugely significant in Ben coming to faith and seeing the big picture of God’s purposes for us in Christ.

In this biblical theology workshop, Ben hopes to help you see Jesus on every page of the Old Testament, so that you are filled with confidence that life to the full is found in him.

Ben came from Sydney to pastor Warrnambool Presbyterian Church in January 2008 with his wife Lou and their three small children.  Now their only dependent is Maggie, a Red Heeler. They enjoy being active outdoors and being inside with books or film media.  Ben also serves as the convenor of the Women’s Ministries Committee and has a passion for seeing women grow in faith.
